The 2016-17 Wayne-Finger Lakes basketball season got underway with an early opener on Tuesday night that saw the #2 Mynderse Academy Blue Devils travel to Rushville to face #8 Marcus Whitman Wildcats in the first official game in all of Section V.
Mynderse would build upon a 34-27 halftime lead to take a commanding 53-32 advantage after the third quarter. The Blue Devils would cruise in the fourth quarter for a 64-41 victory in the Finger Lakes East-West crossover opener.

Four-year starting guard Bret Anderson led all scorers with 17 points while fellow senior Jake Mein hauled down 15 rebounds, scored 8 points and dished out 7 assists from the center position. Jake Jones added 10 points for the winning Blue Devils.
Marcus Whitman was lead by Riley McLoud’s 15 point, 8 rebound effort. Burlin Allen scored 8 points in the loss. Marcus Whitman opens their season at 0-1 and faces an extended lay-off before their next game, also against an FL East opponent, at Wayne on December 2nd.
Mynderse starts their season at 1-0 heading into a big early season matchup with #3 Clyde-Savannah at New York Chiropractic College on Saturday night in the NYCC Tip-Off Classic. That game can be seen live on FL1 Sports as part of a quadruple-header webcast on FingerLakes1.TV.
